What To Do When Life Gives You Lemons
Don’t get the idea that all single parents struggle but for those who feel as if all life gives you are lemons – take advantage of it. I never liked lemonade – way too tart for me besides, it has too much unhealthy sugar. So the idea of eating anything with the name lemon in it was an immediate turn off.
Years ago – many years ago – yes, I’m that old… I was introduced to the idea of adding lemon to my water when I was singing a lot of Karaoke. My throat was hurting and someone told me to suck on a lemon. Well for someone who hates lemons I must have really wanted to sing and I did, so I did. It was of course nasty and I followed it with a glass of water. Recently I have learned more benefits of lemons so rather than sucking on a lemon I add a little lemon juice to my water every day.
Now, what does this have to do with being a single parent? Think of it as inexpensive preventive medicine. The health benefits of lemon are phenomenal and numerous such as being a natural antioxidant, helps to prevent cancer, keeps the intestinal track healthy and much more. If you can prevent illness you can prevent missed workdays and extra trips to the doctor. The best part is lemons are cheap.
Lemon juice prevents kidney stones, detoxes the liver and helps digest food, lowers cholesterol, and can aid in preventing asthma flair ups and much more.
Lemons are jam packed with vitamins that help fight off colds and if you do catch a cold some lemon juice mixed in warm water does wonders for a sore throat.
Start your day with the juice from half a lemon mixed in water with a dash of cayenne pepper to boost your metabolism and burn fat.
Along with preventive immune boosting properties lemons also are used as cures for many ailments such as nausea, heartburn, and constipation. It can be used as a fever reducer and aid in toothaches.
