I love to write but living with adult ADD I tend to get writers block a lot so keeping content fresh can be difficult. I’m also a single parent who feels isolated with little family and friends nearby. I also want to create a foundation to help single parents with things such as childcare so she/he can attend college or help with an unexpected bill and so on. So, realizing there is strength in numbers I came up with the idea of a community blog.
The “Perspective” came from the idea that media has created such a negative image of what the single parent looks like. We have been portrayed as poor, alcoholic, drug addicted losers who can’t keep track of their children. Statistics don’t paint a much better picture of single parents either. Being a single parent is hard – there is no doubt about that but simply put being a parent (even happily married) is one of the most challenging jobs a person will ever face. Just when you think you know what you are doing – (BAM) think again. No two children are alike when it comes to behavior or how to discipline. Even when you think you are doing everything right your children could still end up doing wrong and even when you think you are doing nothing right your children can still surprise you. As with most things in life – it’s all in how you look at it.
As someone who has signed up and participated with many popular social sites I recognize the need to share the riches. Many sites will let you submit blog posts but the site owners are the only ones enjoying the booty other than the ability to network and get your personal blog noticed (which has it’s importance also). Therefore, we have created an ad sharing program. This helps in several ways – limits the amount of advertisements in a page, creates a uniform appearance, restricts unwanted ads, all while still allowing our contributing members a chance to earn from their efforts.
Single parents should be honored not frowned upon. We have to do everything alone – while it is possible to do everything alone it can be difficult to to it all and do it all well. But do we give up? There is no time for falling apart and if we did who would be there to help us back up. So, we march on and continue to strive to do better because we love our children! When we fall down we get back up, shake it off, and move forward.
Here at The Single Parent Perspective we have created a community where single parents can find camaraderie, plenty of cyber hugs, and a lot of support.
